At church today, I sat by a few of my young gal friends and their little tykes ages one and under. I have to admit that at first I felt out of place. All I had to do was sit there. Calli is long gone into nursery, so there is no chasing or wrestling for me (for now). But it didn't take long to take me back.
Within minutes of the meeting's start, the arsenal of entertainment emerged. The bags began getting unpacked. Boxes of snacks, small cars, books, pacifiers, magnifying glasses and even toothbrushes were brought out. The cars started on the floor, but eventually they became balls and then weapons. For some reason, the babes decided to just chuck cars and various other objects across the room, at each other, at other ladies.... You can imagine the sight.
Even more exciting than that; however, was watching the Relief Society Powder Puff team.
"#2 on Baby Team picks up the blue truck, he winds back and launches it right toward Baby #3. Wait a minute, Baby #3 can't catch yet. WHOA! Did you see that? #3 on Mommy Team blocked that pass just in time! What a save! Next play...
#1 on Baby Team finds magnifying glass on floor-- He holds it up. This might be a trick, um... what is he going to do? He looks at it, and yep, he's going to throw it. He let's go... Oh! INTERCEPTION! Did you see that catch? #1 on Mommy Team had that it in a blink of an eye. Talk about cat like reflexes!"
I am sure my friends were feeling a little stress, but for me it was stress relief. I realized all those times I had been worried when Calli was acting up or being a distraction, that I really had no need to worry at all. People would tell me, "She's fine" and I never believed them. But they were right. When you've been there before and are merely a spectator, your perception changes. You see how those little things really aren't a bother, just part of the game. And the game is to be enjoyed.
I thought those boys were really quite well behaved today. And those mommies? All-Stars.

Ashley - I have never been able to verbalize this, but you are exactly right! (Very well put.) I always worry about what people are thinking of me and MY BOYS. (Eli couldn’t understand why I wouldn’t let him chew on his crayon today. I am just such a mean mom.)
Your turn will come again… soon. I LOVE having boys! :)
Yep. That was a bit of a spectacle. Thanks for making me laugh because it didn't seem all that funny at the time. We can't wait for your little guy to join in on the fun!
cute post. it is sometimes hard to remember in the midst of it that it's really not a big deal.
I so hear you! It just always makes me laugh to hear the younger girls who don't have any kids and say, "When I have kids they will behave...they will NEVER eat cheerios off the floor, or throw toys" I can't help but think to myself and giggle; just you wait, it's not as easy as it looks. Have fun with that one and let us know when you finally realize your foot has been in your mouth:)
